“Systematic Campaign Against Me” – Kobby Mensah Demands Probe Into Property Demolition

Businessman and former NDC Parliamentary Aspirant for Ablekuma West, Mr. Kobby Mensah, has expressed shock and disappointment over the demolition of his property at Dansoman Ebenezer, alleging abuse of power and lack of due process.

In a press statement dated May 31, 2026, and issued under M. KOBBY1 GROUP OF COMPANIES, Mensah said he legally acquired the land on May 2, 1997, from Nii Allotey Obour. He maintained ownership, began initial development in 2009, constructed a perimeter fence in 2010, and started regularizing the property in 2014.

According to Mensah, he began redeveloping the site into a hotel earlier this year. Weeks later, Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Ohenewaa Akweley Ocloo, visited the site and directed that the height of the fence wall be reduced. He said he complied in good faith.

Despite his compliance, Hon Mensah alleged the same Regional Minister later ordered the demolition of the property. Officials from the Municipal Assembly carried out the exercise. He claimed he was physically assaulted by security personnel who accompanied the demolition team when he tried to stop the exercise and seek clarification.

Hon Kobby Mensah described the Regional Minister’s reported justification as “disturbing,” alleging she stated that she would not permit him to construct a hotel near her mother’s family home. He said the circumstances raise serious concerns about whether the demolition was motivated by personal interests rather than legitimate planning considerations.

He disclosed that he had earlier petitioned the NDC leadership over the dispute. The party constituted a committee chaired by Hon. Baba Jamal to investigate, with a meeting scheduled for June 1, 2026.

“It is therefore troubling and highly suspicious that the demolition of my property was carried out just a day before the committee was due to hear the matter. I respectfully ask: Why was there such urgency to demolish my property before the party’s investigative process could take place?” Mensah questioned.

He stated he supports law enforcement and planning regulations but questioned why his property was singled out while other structures along the same gutter and watercourse remain untouched. He called the action selective and discriminatory.

Mensah also cited a similar incident five months ago, when the Municipal Chief Executive oversaw the demolition of a fence wall at one of his hotels in Ablekuma, a business he had operated for nearly three decades.
