The three striking teacher unions have refused to call off their nationwide strike after meeting with the Education Minister today.
Speaking to the media after the engagement with Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, the leadership of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and Coalition of Concerned Teachers said government offered only promises.
"In fact, we met the Minister and his team this afternoon with regards to our strike action. It has been the old story of promises upon promises," the GNAT leader said.
He said at this stage, teachers will not accept verbal assurances.
"Where we have reached at the moment we are not taking promises, we want action," he stressed.
The unions say teachers must continue to stay at home until their demands are met with concrete evidence.
"Our teachers must continue to stay home until we see something concrete. Until we see the salaries, the arrears reflecting on our payslips and crediting our accounts, until we see that we are not going back to school. We'll continue to stay home until all our issues are addressed," he stated.
