Member of Parliament for Akyem Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has encouraged newly trained teachers to remain committed to the profession despite the challenges facing teachers in Ghana.
Speaking as guest at the graduation ceremony of the Methodist College of Education, the MP told the Class of 2025 that they were graduating into a system where teachers are under pressure.
“Ghanaians, let me remind you that you are graduating into a Ghana where the teacher is under pressure. Posting delays that are very real, lack of essentials and other hardships,” he said.
Mr Acquah assured the graduates that their concerns are being championed in Parliament.
“I know in Parliament we are fighting very hard for you to be posted on time. You must not stay home after four years of training,” he stated.
He noted that despite the difficulties, teachers are needed now more than ever, and urged the graduates to be agents of change.
“You are graduating into a Ghana where the teacher is more needed than ever. You, Class of 2025, must be the correction. Go and be the teacher parents can trust with their daughters and sons,” he added.
