Tema Police Seize 5,039 Parcels of Suspected Narcotics, Turn Down GH¢150,000 Bribe

Police in Tema say they intercepted a massive drug consignment and rejected a GH¢150,000 bribe offered to free the truck and its cargo.

Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, July 23, 2026, *Tema Regional Police Commander DCOP Eric Asamoah Asiedu* said officers acted on intelligence and stopped a tipper truck at *Afienya*.

A search revealed *5,039 compressed parcels of suspected narcotic substances* concealed in the truck. Two suspects were arrested on the spot and have since been remanded.

According to DCOP Asiedu, one of the suspects later tried to bribe the officers to release both the truck and the drugs.

*“Our officers rejected an alleged GH¢150,000 bribe offered by a suspect who sought the release of the truck carrying the suspected narcotic substances,”* he said.

He praised the officers for refusing the offer, saying it shows the Service’s commitment to professionalism and integrity in fighting organised crime.

*“The Tema Regional Police Command remains resolute, vigilant and fully committed to combating crime. We have strengthened intelligence gathering, patrols and collaboration with other security agencies. There will be no haven for criminals within this Region,”* DCOP Asiedu added.

The 5,039 parcels remain in police custody while investigations continue. Police say they are also tracking other persons believed to be linked to the suspected drug trafficking network.

The disclosure was part of a wider update on recent operations by the Tema Regional Command targeting armed robbery, narcotics trafficking and other organised crime in the region.
