“This Is Ghana’s Fight” — MP Joana Gyan Cudjoe Calls for Urgent Aid After Floods Hit 1,500+ Homes in Samreboi

Amenfi Central MP Joana Gyan Cudjoe is calling for immediate government and public support after severe flooding displaced over 1,500 households across Samreboi and nearby areas in the Western Region.

In a statement, the MP called the situation a “humanitarian catastrophe” affecting Amenfi West, Amenfi Central, and Amenfi East. Days of heavy rain have left homes underwater, destroyed property, and crippled economic activity.

More than 1,500 families have been forced from their homes. Roads are impassable, businesses are closed, and many people are stranded without food, shelter, or medical care.

“We stand together today, brokenhearted,” Gyan Cudjoe said. “Parents and children are sleeping in the open. Lives have been lost, and despair is spreading.”

She praised the Managing Director of Samartex Timber and Plywood for his support during the crisis but stressed that individual efforts can’t match the scale of the disaster.

The MP directly appealed to President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, and key ministries — including Environment, Lands and Natural Resources, Defence, and Education — to act quickly.

She asked for emergency food, medical aid, and road-clearing equipment to reopen access to cut-off communities. “We need a coordinated plan to save lives and rebuild,” she said.

Gyan Cudjoe urged Ghanaians to see the crisis as a national issue. “This is not just Samreboi’s fight; it is Ghana’s fight,” she stated, calling on citizens and institutions to back relief efforts.

With floodwaters still affecting the Wassa enclave, fears are growing for vulnerable groups, especially children, the elderly, and pregnant women.

Local leaders and residents are now looking to government for swift relief and reconstruction in the affected communities.
