State Transport Company will receive 140 new buses within the next two months as government moves to ease pressure on public transport, Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe has said.
The planned delivery is part of efforts to improve services for commuters and long-distance travelers amid rising demand for intercity travel. Many passengers have complained of inadequate buses, overcrowding, and delays, with calls for urgent upgrades to the transport system.
Speaking to the media, Nikpe said government’s fleet expansion goes beyond the 100 Metro Mass Transit buses commissioned earlier this year. STC is also getting major investment to boost intercity operations.
“We know the difficulties that we are experiencing with transportation, but we are very certain that the next 100 MMT buses will come in within the next two months and STC will also have 140 buses. We will be able to have more high occupancy buses,” the Minister stated.
The new buses are expected to increase capacity, improve links between major towns and cities, and reduce strain on existing public transport services.
