AG Ayine: Money Spent On National Cathedral Could Have Completed Agenda 111 Hospitals

Attorney General *Dr. Dominic Ayine* has questioned the decision to spend public funds on the National Cathedral, saying the money could have been channelled into completing some of the abandoned *Agenda 111* hospitals.

He made the remarks on Thursday during the district launch of the *Free Primary Health Care* programme in the Bolga East Constituency in the Upper East Region.

Dr. Ayine said he received a *PwC audit report* on the National Cathedral project on Friday, 7th August. According to him, the findings showed that the amount spent so far could have gone a long way in finishing some of the district hospitals started under the previous government’s Agenda 111 initiative.

“_The PwC report on the National Cathedral was presented to me last Friday. The monies spent on the National Cathedral from that report could have been used to complete some Agenda 111 Hospitals,_” he stated.

“_You don’t build a house of God in the manner in which they went about it._”

The National Cathedral was championed by former President *Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo* as a national monument and interfaith place of worship. Since it began, the project has faced heavy public debate over its funding, cost, and slow progress, especially at a time when the country is struggling with economic pressures.

Dr. Ayine argued that with critical needs in health, education and infrastructure, priority should have been placed on projects that directly impact citizens’ wellbeing.

He used the health programme launch to stress the need for government spending to focus on improving access to essential healthcare services.

*Agenda 111* was launched by the Akufo-Addo administration to build 111 district and regional hospitals to bridge healthcare gaps nationwide, but several of the facilities remain uncompleted.
