Dr. Gloria Amegatcher, Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists, has called on Ghanaians to be more conscious of their diet and lifestyle choices.
Addressing participants at the 14th Annual Scientific Conference of the Medical Laboratory Science Students Association, Dr. Amegatcher said a large number of sicknesses in the country are self-inflicted. She blamed negligence and poor lifestyle habits for the rising cases of preventable diseases.
She stressed that it is more effective to take proactive steps to prevent conditions like kidney disease than to wait until treatment becomes necessary.
Dr. Amegatcher also highlighted the vital role Medical Laboratory Scientists play in diagnosing, monitoring, and managing diseases across the country. She said the healthcare system depends heavily on their work, and therefore government must prioritize them.
She appealed for increased support, adding that lab professionals need the requisite tools and resources to deliver quality and timely healthcare services to Ghanaians.
