Ghana is preparing to deploy approximately 400 nurses to Jamaica and expand a teacher exchange program as part of a renewed partnership under the Joint Permanent Commission for Cooperation (JPCC). This initiative follows a series of agreements aimed at enhancing diplomatic, economic, and human resource ties between the two nations. Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa emphasized that the agreement will not only facilitate the deployment of Ghanaian health professionals to support Jamaica's healthcare system but will also pave the way for a teacher exchange program expected to commence within the year. Ongoing negotiations are set to finalize the details of this program by August 2026. The minister noted the high global demand for Ghanaian professionals, highlighting the agreement as a testament to the country's growing reputation for skilled human capital. In addition to health and education, both countries have signed further cooperation agreements covering defense and tourism, strengthening their bilateral collaboration. Jamaica has expressed gratitude for Ghana's diplomatic and humanitarian support, recalling Ghana's assistance after Hurricane Melissa and its role in advocating for historical justice at the United Nations. This partnership aims to deepen cultural and ancestral ties between the two nations, which share a rich history linked to the African diaspora.
