The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has confirmed the arrest and detention of one of its members, Nurse Salomey Baffoe, in Techiman.
According to an update issued by the Association on 16th September 2026 in Accra, the arrest is reportedly linked to the ongoing "Ghana Jollof" investigation.
Following the arrest, the National Council of the GRNMA dispatched a high-powered delegation to the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters in Accra on Wednesday, 16th September 2026. The delegation was led by the Assistant National Public Relations Officer, Mr. Philimon Gyapong, to formally ascertain the circumstances surrounding her arrest.
At the CID Headquarters, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in charge confirmed that Nurse Salomey was indeed apprehended in Techiman and is currently in police custody.
Citing the sensitive and ongoing nature of the investigation, the ACP declined to disclose specific details regarding the case. He advised the GRNMA leadership to liaise directly with the member's legal counsel, who had represented her in court earlier in the day.
The GRNMA leadership said it expressed deep reservations regarding the lack of transparency concerning her specific place of detention. However, the ACP assured the delegation that she is safe, unharmed, and being treated in strict accordance with professional police standards.
The Association was also informed that the member is scheduled for another court appearance on Thursday, 17th September 2026 at the Adenta Circuit Court.
Upon receiving the delegation's report, the National Council, under the directive of the GRNMA President, Mrs. Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, immediately mobilized a team of representatives to attend the court session on Thursday.
The Association says the intervention aims to establish a clear understanding of the legal landscape and to create a strategic collaboration with her defense lawyers to secure a swift resolution.
Leadership has also established direct telephone contact with Nurse Salomey's family, extending solidarity and assuring them of the Association's unwavering legal, emotional, and institutional support.
"We urge all members to remain calm but vigilant as we navigate this matter. Unity is Strength," the statement signed by Philimon Gyapong, Assistant National PRO, said.
