Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has directed the immediate deployment of 10 medical doctors and 30 nurses and midwives to the Weija-Gbawe Children's Specialist Hospital.
The Minister gave the directive after touring the 120-bed facility, which he described as the first stand-alone children's referral centre of its kind in the country.
Speaking to journalists after the visit, Mr. Akandoh said he was impressed with operations so far, noting that Out-Patient services and emergency care have commenced and almost all equipment needed has been fully installed.
He said the additional staff will beef up the workforce as the hospital scales up services.
"This is Weija-Gbawe pediatric referral or specialist hospital. It's about 120 bed capacity and it's now in operation... I have directed that with immediate effect they should bring additional ten medical doctors and 30 nurses and midwives to beef up the health workforce," the Minister said.
Mr. Akandoh also charged management and staff to prioritise regular maintenance of the facility and to treat patients with respect and dignity.
"We have also impressed upon them to make sure they keep the facility well, maintain it and try to treat the patients with respect and dignity... and we have our eyes here because it's a very important and sensitive facility for the country," he added.
