Human Rights Are Fundamental To A Just Society – Kumawu MP At UNHRC Session In Geneva

The Member of Parliament for Kumawu Constituency and Chairperson of Parliament's Human Rights Committee, Hon Ernest Yaw Anim, is participating in the 63rd Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC63) in Geneva.

Hon Anim, who is representing Ghana, said he is honoured to join global stakeholders on the second day of the session to deliberate on issues central to the protection and promotion of human rights.

According to him, discussions have focused on some of the most pressing human rights concerns, including strengthening the rule of law and accountability, protecting human rights defenders, safeguarding fundamental freedoms, advancing the rights of women and children, addressing discrimination, and ensuring effective responses to human rights violations in situations of conflict and crisis.

He noted that as Chairperson of Parliament's Human Rights Committee, his participation provides an important opportunity to learn from international best practices, strengthen parliamentary engagement with the UN human rights system, and build partnerships that can contribute to advancing human rights and democratic governance in Ghana.

"Human rights are not merely international commitments—they are fundamental to building a just, peaceful and accountable society," he stated.
