New Patriotic Party National Chairman hopeful Dr. Sammy Crabbe has called for urgent unity in the NPP, warning that the party cannot return to power in 2028 without bringing all factions together.
Speaking to Rainbow Radio 87.5FM Parliamentary Correspondent Bohyeba K. Afriye in Parliament, the former NPP National Vice Chairman said the party’s immediate need is a chairman who can reconcile members and make the NPP attractive again.
“The current NPP must be united to help win the 2028 Elections. Without unity, the party cannot win power in the country’s next election.”
“The party now needs a chairman who can bring everyone on board to help us gain power, and I’m currently the right person to lead that course as chairman. The party must be attractive to get more supporters, so we need to sanitize the party and bring everyone together.”
Dr. Crabbe pledged that, if elected chairman, he would unite the four aspirants who contested Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during the NPP flagbearership race.
“If delegates vote for me to become the chairman, I will make sure all the four aspirants who contested Dr. Bawumia come together to help campaign for the party,” he said. “All those who are now upset with the party need to be talked to and brought together to help the NPP.”
Analyzing the 2024 elections, Dr. Crabbe said the data shows a clear path to victory in 2028 with Dr. Bawumia as flagbearer.
“Everything shows that the NPP with Dr. Bawumia as flagbearer can win the 2028 Elections. It’s clear that President John Dramani Mahama’s vote increased by 6.1%, which means he didn’t increase his base,” he explained.
“With this, Dr. Bawumia would have won the 2024 election if he got the votes Nana Addo got in the 2020 Elections. So the party needs to bring everyone together to help win the next election.”
He blamed the 2024 defeat on internal failures. “I blame everyone in the party, especially the leadership, for the defeat because a lot of people were not happy with the institution’s neglect of some supporters.”
