The Kpando Young Ladies Association (KYLA), in partnership with the Ghana Education Service (GES), celebrated International Menstrual Hygiene Day with an educational program aimed at empowering young girls and reducing the stigma surrounding menstruation. The event, themed 'Together for a Period-Friendly Ghana,' gathered students from various schools in the Kpando Municipality to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene management. KYLA donated sanitary pads to students and organized career guidance sessions, including training in fashion design and bead-making. Doris Sename, a member of KYLA, emphasized the importance of not letting menstruation hinder education or self-esteem, urging young girls to embrace their natural cycles without shame. She called for collective efforts from stakeholders and parents to enhance access to sanitary products and menstrual health education. Guest speaker Priscilla Ocloo Dzaba encouraged students to value the knowledge and skills gained during the event. The initiative highlights the need for supportive environments for girls in schools and communities, aiming to foster confidence and ambition among young women.
