Abetifi MP Dr. Bryan Acheampong has called on former NPP presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong to de-escalate tensions and work with the party to rebuild unity ahead of the 2028 elections.
The appeal follows Agyapong’s recent warning that he would not be intimidated into silence by criticism from within the New Patriotic Party.
“NPP should be careful with me, saying I am bitter. If they provoke me, I will spill the beans all over the place,” the former Assin Central MP cautioned.
*“I Understand the Disappointment”*
In a statement issued Friday, June 19, 2026, Dr. Acheampong said he relates to Agyapong’s frustration after both men contested the NPP’s January 2026 presidential primary.
“I speak to you today not as a bystander to our recent contest, but as one who stood in it,” Acheampong said. “I understand the weight of disappointment that follows a hard-fought campaign and the depth of emotion invested by candidates and supporters alike.”
*“Rebuild, Reunite, Return to Power”*
The Abetifi MP stressed that the NPP’s priority after its “painful defeat in 2024” must be recovery.
“The single most important task before us between now and 2028 is to rebuild, to reunite, and to return to power,” he said.
He expressed concern over Agyapong’s recent remarks and what he called “threats of action against the party and certain individuals.”
*“A Son of This Party”*
Dr. Acheampong described Agyapong as a long-standing asset to the NPP.
“Ken is a son of this party. A man whose energy, resources and loyalty over decades cannot be questioned,” he said.
“It is for that very reason that I urge him, respectfully but firmly, to lower the temperature and to lend his considerable influence to the work of healing rather than division.”
*Appeal to Both Camps*
The former presidential aspirant also addressed supporters on both sides, urging them to avoid deepening internal rifts.
“So, I appeal to Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, to his supporters, and to mine: let us lay down the weapons of internal warfare,” Acheampong said.
“Let us close ranks behind our flagbearer so that in 2028 we restore the New Patriotic Party to the service of the people of Ghana.”
He warned that personal grievances must not derail the party’s comeback efforts, insisting unity is the NPP’s surest path to electoral recovery.
