President John Dramani Mahama is set to review the performance of all Ministers and CEOs of state institutions, a move that could lead to a reshuffle in the coming days.
The update came through a statement from the Presidency on Monday, signed by Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama. The review will determine which officials stay in their posts, get reassigned, or are removed.
*Key points from the Presidency:*
- *Purpose of review*: Findings will guide decisions on retention, reassignment, and any future Cabinet changes.
- *Focus on delivery*: Public officials are expected to prioritize results for Ghanaians over chasing external awards.
- *Concern over private awards*: The Presidency flagged a growing trend of Ministers and CEOs accepting titles like “best-performing” or “most outstanding” from private groups.
*Why the caution on awards:*
- *Credibility questions*: Many awarding organisations are unknown, with no clear or transparent criteria for judging performance.
- *Risk to public service*: Such awards could harm the integrity of government, create wrong ideas about how performance is measured, and open government to criticism.
- *New directive*: Ministers, CEOs, and appointees must not participate in, endorse, sponsor, or accept private awards without express approval from the Office of the President.
The Presidency says performance will be based on measurable outcomes, effective service delivery, proper use of public funds, and how well policy objectives are met. Public office, it stressed, is a serious duty that cannot be measured by commercial ceremonies.
Officials have been urged to concentrate fully on their mandates and delivering results, rather than seeking recognition from award schemes with questionable credibility.
