Members of Parliament from the Minority Caucus have commended Minority Leader Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin for sponsoring a capacity-building training programme that took them to Canada.
The MPs, led by Weija Gbawe MP and Second Deputy Minority Whip Hon Jerry Ahmed Shaib, took time out of the intensive training to pay a courtesy call on Ghana’s High Commissioner to Canada, Her Excellency Professor Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh, at her official residence in Ottawa.
Hon Shaib said the training programme sponsored by Osahen Afenyo-Markin created a platform for MPs to engage directly with Ghana’s mission abroad.
The visit allowed the caucus to discuss practical issues affecting Ghana and its citizens beyond Parliament.
Key areas discussed with the High Commissioner includes Development priorities where the engagement focused on Ghana’s development goals and how to advance national interests.
The MPs and the High Commissioner discussed the welfare of Ghanaians living in Canada and ways to address their concerns.
Talks also explored opportunities to further strengthen the longstanding ties between the two countries.
Hon Shaib expressed gratitude to Her Excellency for the warm reception and insightful discussions. He described such engagements as invaluable for improving the lives of Ghanaians at home and abroad.
The Weija Gbawe MP further thanked Minority Leader Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin for making the training programme possible. He praised the Minority Leader’s continued commitment to building the capacity of Members of Parliament.
