The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has given aspirants contesting its reorganisation exercise five days to remove all oversized campaign posters and banners mounted across the country.
In a statement issued on Friday, October 9 and signed by General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the party said its Functional Executive Committee (FEC) has set a maximum size of 5 feet wide by 8 feet high for all campaign materials. The FEC, which met on Tuesday, October 6, also directed that posters should only be displayed at constituency offices, regional offices and election grounds.
The party warned that any wilful disregard of the directive will attract disciplinary action, explaining that the measure is to ensure order, discipline, modesty and a level playing field for all aspirants.
*Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM's Frontline Show,* the Director of Elections and IT for the NDC, Hon. Mahdi Gibrill, said the decision was necessary to prevent the creation of nuisance within the party system.
According to Hon. Mahdi, the party wants to avoid a situation where oversized posters and banners litter the streets and affect the image of the party as a governing political organisation.
He added that aspirants do not need huge billboards to win elections, and can engage delegates directly without mounting oversized posters or banners.
"The decision by the Party is to prevent the creation of nuisance in the system that will affect the party. All aspirants can engage the delegates directly without mounting oversized posters or banners," Hon. Mhadi stated.
