The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists, Dr. John Tosenu Mensah, says laboratory services play a critical role in the health sector and cannot be overlooked.
Speaking at the 2026 Greater Accra Regional Congress of GAMLS themed _“Medical Laboratory Science: Now and the Future”_, Dr. Tosenu said the work of doctors becomes difficult without proper laboratory support.
According to him, without accurate laboratory services in hospitals, medical doctors will struggle to determine the right treatment to prescribe for patients.
Dr. Tosenu also urged members of GAMLS to equip themselves with knowledge of modern laboratory equipment. He said it is the responsibility of laboratory scientists to continually upgrade their skills in order to deliver quality services to the public.
He further assured Ghanaians that GAMLS will ensure unregistered laboratory facilities are dealt with.
He said any center found operating without proper registration will be handed over to the Allied Health Directorate for the law to take its course.
