Accra Int'l Airport VIP Lounge to be completed by end of 2026 – Ablakwa

The new ultramodern VIP Lounge at the Kotoka International Airport will be completed and handed over before the end of 2026, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has said.

The Minister gave the assurance after inspecting ongoing works at the project site on Friday, September 4, 2026, where he expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work done so far.

According to Mr Ablakwa, the project is not being funded with taxpayer money. He explained that it is being executed through a Corporate Social Responsibility arrangement with some local Ghanaian businesses.

Under the arrangement, he said, the participating businesses directly pay local contractors of their choice to undertake the works, while the Estate Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs provides supervision to ensure standards are met.

He noted that this model has allowed the project to progress without recourse to public funds and without going through the traditional public procurement process.

"This project is a great symbol of what can be achieved without public funds and public procurement," he stated.
