Africa CDC Appoints Ghana's Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh To Continental Immunization Advisory Council

Hon. Frank Annoh-Dompreh, MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri Constituency and Minority Chief Whip, has been appointed by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) to serve on the newly established Continental Immunization Advisory Council (CIAC).

The appointment was contained in an official letter dated 14th August 2026 and signed by Dr. Folake Olayinka, Director, Immunization Directorate, Africa CDC. Hon. Annoh-Dompreh accepted the offer on 20th August 2026.

*Why He Was Selected*

Africa CDC said Hon. Annoh-Dompreh was identified “_in recognition of your distinguished leadership, expertise and contribution to the immunization and health agenda, development and social impact in Africa and globally, and the strategic perspective you would bring to the Council._”

*Mandate Of The CIAC*

The CIAC is being established as a *high-level, independent advisory body to Africa CDC on immunization*.

According to the letter, the Council will:

- Provide strategic advice to support implementation of the *Continental Immunization Strategy (CIS) 2026–2030*

- Accelerate immunization uptake across Africa

- Ensure Africa’s immunization agenda remains anchored in *political leadership, accountability and country ownership*

The Council will bring together leaders from *public health, government, finance, parliaments, academia, civil society, the private sector and communities*. Key areas of focus include sustainable domestic financing, reaching zero-dose and underserved populations, vaccine security, African vaccine manufacturing, stronger primary health care, and protecting gains in fragile and conflict-affected settings.

*Personal Appointment*

Africa CDC noted that membership is by *individual appointment*, and members will serve in their *personal and independent capacity* rather than as representatives of institutions.

Hon. Annoh-Dompreh’s appointment adds to Ghana’s representation in continental health policy and reflects recognition of Ghanaian parliamentary leadership in advancing health and development on the continent.
