Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah, Member of Parliament for Akim Oda Constituency, has raised an alarm over what he describes as the devastating impact of illegal mining, popularly known as _galamsey_, in his constituency.
According to the MP, Akim Oda is currently “under siege” due to excessive illegal mining activities, which have destroyed all river bodies in the area.
*“Akim Oda is under siege due to excessive Galamsey, and something urgent must be done about it. All our river bodies in the constituency have been destroyed,”* Hon. Acquah said.
The MP is calling for immediate government and stakeholder intervention to halt the menace and restore the environment in the constituency.
Illegal mining has been a major concern in several mining communities across the Eastern Region, with devastating effects on water bodies, farmlands, and public health.
