The Member of Parliament for Amasaman Constituency, Hon. Sedem Kweku Afenyo, has urged residents and school authorities to take ownership of the maintenance of government projects in their communities.
He made the call at the commissioning and handing over of a newly completed classroom block at Manhean on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
According to the MP, the project which was started about nine months ago was completed on schedule. He commended the contractor for a good job and said he personally carried out regular inspections to ensure work progressed as planned.
Hon. Afenyo said while government is responsible for providing infrastructure, its upkeep should be a collective responsibility involving school authorities, traditional leaders, parents and the entire community and should not be left to headteachers and teachers alone.
He cited schools like Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School, Legon, where strong Parent-Teacher Association involvement has helped to maintain facilities, and stressed that a similar culture is needed in Amasaman.
He therefore appealed to the people of Manhean and its surrounding communities to cultivate a strong maintenance culture to ensure the facility serves its purpose for many years.
The MP also disclosed that several communities have requested similar classroom blocks, but noted that development will be done in phases starting with communities like Manhean. He announced that furniture is being procured for schools in the constituency and assured that Manhean MA Basic School will benefit to help address furniture challenges.
Hon. Afenyo reaffirmed his commitment to improving educational infrastructure in the constituency, expressing optimism that significant progress will be made before the end of the government's four-year term.
