Board Chairman of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) and National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, is calling for urgent modernisation, innovation and efficiency in Ghana's ports to position them as the preferred trade gateway in West Africa.
Speaking at an industry event at the Movenpick Hotel in Accra, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah said while the maritime industry is facing global challenges, those challenges also offer an opportunity for transformation.
"The challenges confronting the maritime industry also present opportunities for transformation," he said.
He stressed the need for deliberate investment in modern infrastructure, adoption of technology and development of skilled human resource to keep Ghana's ports competitive.
"We must continue to invest in modern infrastructure, leverage technology, deepen collaboration and develop the human capacity required to position Ghana's ports as preferred gateway for trade in the West African sub region and beyond," the GPHA Board Chair stated.
Mr. Asiedu Nketiah noted that Ghana must not lose sight of efficiency, collaboration and innovation if its ports are to retain their relevance in an increasingly competitive maritime trade environment.
