The National Labour Commission (NLC) has directed the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) to stay its intended nationwide strike over the non-payment of reviewed salaries and allowances.
In a letter dated October 26, 2026, with reference number NLC/C-422/2026/35F, signed by Executive Secretary Dr. Bernice A. Welbeck, the Commission acknowledged receipt of a "Notification of Industrial Action" dated 23rd October, 2026 from JUSAG.
According to the letter, JUSAG alleges that Government has failed and/or refused to address their concerns regarding the review of salaries and related allowances for staff of the Judicial Service.
Consequently, the Association threatened to embark on a strike effective *2nd November, 2026*, if its demands are not met.
The NLC has requested the Hon. Minister of Jobs, Labour and Employment Relations to lead discussions with all parties to resolve the impasse.
"The National Labour Commission hereby requests the Hon. Minister... to lead discussions with those attention in the Notice... and to engage the Association representing the workers to discuss the issues in contention. A report on the engagement should be submitted to the Commission by Friday, 6th November, 2026," the letter stated.
Meanwhile, the Commission has advised JUSAG to put its action on hold.
"Meanwhile with this intervention, the Association is advised to stay the intended action in pursuance of Section 161 of the Labour Act, 2003, Act 651," Dr. Welbeck wrote.
The letter was copied to the Executive Secretary at the Office of the President, the Judicial Secretary, the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, the Minister of Finance, and the General Secretary of JUSAG, Abdulai Yakubu.
