Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has sent Eid al-Adha greetings to Muslims in Ghana and around the world, calling on citizens to live out the festival’s core values of sacrifice, compassion, and unity.
In a goodwill message posted on Facebook, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the spiritual importance of Eid al-Adha, describing it as one of the most significant events on the Islamic calendar.
He said the holy occasion reminds believers and society at large about faith, obedience, and selflessness.
“On this sacred occasion, we are reminded of the power of sacrifice, obedience, and unwavering faith,” he wrote.
Dr. Bawumia urged Ghanaians to use the celebration to show kindness to each other and to build stronger national unity, beyond religious and political differences.
“May the spirit of Eid-ul-Adha inspire us to give selflessly, uphold compassion, and strengthen the bonds that unite us as one people,” he added.
The former Vice President also prayed for peace, prosperity, and blessings for homes across Ghana as Muslims mark the festival with prayers, animal sacrifice, and acts of charity.
“As we celebrate, may Allah accept our sacrifices and grant peace, prosperity, and blessings to every home,” he said.
Eid al-Adha, or the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah, before Allah provided a ram instead. The festival is observed with prayers, slaughtering of animals, sharing with the poor, and family gatherings.
