FDA, CPA Confiscate Over 4 Million Fake Baby Diapers Nationwide

More than four million pieces of fake, unregistered and non-compliant baby diapers have been confiscated across the country following a joint market surveillance exercise by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and the Consumer Protection Agency (CPA).

The nationwide exercise is targeting unregistered and unbranded baby diapers being sold on the market, as part of efforts to protect children and consumers from potentially unsafe baby-care products.

The Executive Director for Mediation and Arbitration at the CPA, Nana Prempeh Okogyeabour Aduhene, disclosed this, noting that the seizures are part of an ongoing campaign to rid the market of products that do not meet regulatory requirements.

The latest phase of the operation covered the Western Region, including Takoradi and Tarkwa, where surveillance teams visited shops and business outlets to identify and remove non-compliant products.

The exercise started in the Western Region on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, with inspections in Takoradi and its environs before moving to Tarkwa.

According to the CPA, several quantities of unregistered and unbranded diapers, including Softcare diapers and assorted unbranded products, were seized.

In Takoradi, 16 packs of unregistered Softcare diapers were confiscated from Kadiesoa Mothercare, 48 packs of assorted unbranded diapers from Akosua Ventures, and 180 packs from El-Vitessa Enterprise.

At Diaper House, one bale of assorted unbranded diapers and 29 packs of unregistered Softcare diapers were seized, while 29 packs were taken from R. Boys Everyday Needs. The team also seized 74 packs from Kari-J Essentials and 11 packs of unregistered Softcare diapers from King C Ventures.

The operation was later extended to Koma Oyie Enterprise in Takoradi and businesses in Tarkwa including Clevid Enterprise, Claxvis, Gladys Kwofie Anum Ventures and Brecom Enterprise.

In Tarkwa, 16 packs of assorted unbranded diapers were seized from Clevid Enterprise, 14 packs of unregistered Softcare diapers from Claxvis, 15 packs from Gladys Kwofie Anum Ventures and 80 packs of unbranded diapers from Brecom Enterprise.

The FDA and CPA say the nationwide surveillance campaign has been ongoing since the beginning of the year, with similar operations conducted in several regions.

The exercise is expected to continue in the Bono Region and other areas yet to be covered, with the agencies warning businesses against stocking or selling baby-care products that fail to meet Ghana's regulatory requirements.
