The Ga Mantse, Nii Teiku Tsuru II, has appealed to the Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, to allocate a special quota for the Ga State to facilitate the recruitment, training and development of young people in the area.
According to the Ga Mantse, such a quota system will ensure that Ga-Dangbe youth directly benefit from employment and skills development programmes being rolled out by the agency.
Speaking during a courtesy call on the YEA CEO, Nii Teiku Tsuru II said the queen mothers in the Ga State have already defined the needs of the area and what is required is a dedicated allocation.
"One thing that I will ask government, because the queens have already defined what we need for the Ga State, a quota for the Ga State to be able to recruit youth for training and also development like you have done," he stated.[is]
The Ga Mantse further called for transparency and accountability in the recruitment process, urging the YEA to provide data on the number of Ga youth who have benefited from its programmes.
"We want to be able to be told the statistics that this number of Ghana youth or Ga-Dangbe youth have been developed over the period... It's important that we are able to share the statistics and then we will feel comfortable about it," he added.
He acknowledged that YEA has in recent times requested lists from traditional councils, but stressed that feedback on progress is necessary to build confidence.
The YEA CEO, Malik Basintale, who received the Ga Mantse and his delegation at his office, is expected to respond to the request as part of the Agency's broader youth employment strategy.
