Ghanaians Gave Me One Additional Term, I Intend to Honour Their Trust - President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling the mandate given to him by Ghanaians, saying he is working hard to meet the promises he made during the campaign.

Addressing an event at the Presidency, President Mahama stated that Ghanaians gave him “one additional term” and he intends to honour the trust placed in him.

“I just make a little comment. The people of Ghana gave me a mandate for one term and I am working hard to meet the promises I made them,” he said.

The President disclosed that he has urged his ministers to be conscious of time in delivering on government commitments.

“And so I always tell my ministers I say let's number our days so that we can work harder to meet the promises we made the Ghanaian people,” he added.

On the ongoing debate about presidential tenure, President Mahama commented on a case currently before the Supreme Court seeking an interpretation of the constitutional clause on the tenure of the President.

“I note that people have gone to the Supreme Court seeking interpretation of the clause that governs the tenure of the President. If you ask my personal opinion I thought that it was clear enough. Me I've read it over several times. It's exactly what it says,” President Mahama said.

He however added that it is within the rights of the petitioners to seek clarity from the court.

“But if they want to ask the Supreme Court that is their business. But I know that the people of Ghana gave me one additional term and I'm going to work to meet the trust that they put in me.
