The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Obeng Asare, popularly known as A-Plus, says residents are preparing to demonstrate over the longstanding land boundary dispute between Gomoa and Effutu.
His comment comes on the back of recent violent clashes at New Winneba, which left three persons dead, about 17 injured and several properties destroyed.
Speaking to the media, A-Plus said the area is currently calm, but residents are mobilising for a massive protest over what he described as the conduct of the police during the disturbances.
"The area is very calm, yes, but we are going to mobilise, we are going to demonstrate. The police came in there to murder people. The police came with orders to murder people, and we are not going to let it slide. We are going to protest in our numbers," he said.
The MP disclosed that he had earlier written to the Lands Commission requesting clarification on the boundaries between Gomoa and Effutu in a bid to prevent further clashes.
According to him, after receiving a response from the Commission, he petitioned the Ministry of the Interior, asking it to intervene over the construction of a police station in the disputed enclave.
"I wrote a letter to the Lands Commission asking them to give me my boundaries and Effutu boundaries so we avert this whole issue of land disputes. When I received it, I wrote a letter to the Interior Ministry and attached the report," he said.
He questioned why a facility named Effutu North Police Station and Effutu North Police Command was built in the contested area, arguing that it suggests state institutions are taking sides.
"What it means is that you are taking sides, and therefore, you are declaring that area an Effutu land," A-Plus added.
The MP has not yet announced a date or route for the planned demonstration. Meanwhile, security agencies continue to maintain a presence in New Winneba following the clashes, which have been linked to the protracted land dispute between Gomoa and Effutu communities.
Authorities are yet to officially respond to his allegations against the police and his concerns over the location of the police station.
