GOVERNMENT MEETS DDEP COUPONS, PAYS $2.1BN TO EUROBOND HOLDERS AS DOMESTIC DEBT HITS 54.4% OF TOTAL

The Minister for Finance, *Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson*, says Ghana continues to meet all its debt obligations on schedule, with domestic and external payments made in full to restore investor confidence.

Presenting the *Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review of the 2026 Budget* in Parliament on Thursday, July 23, 2026, Dr. Forson gave an update on the country’s debt composition and payments.

*"At the end of June twenty twenty-six domestic debt accounted for fifty-four point four percent of Ghana's total public debt, while external debt accounted for forty-five point six percent,"* he stated.

On the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme, he said government honoured the sixth coupon payment on time.

*"On the seventeenth of February twenty twenty-six government honoured the sixth domestic debt exchange program coupon payment of ten point one billion on time and in full,"* he told the House.

The seventh DDEP coupon payment is due next month.

*"Mr speaker the seventh DDDDEP coupon payment of ten point eight billion CDs falls due on the eighteenth of August twenty twenty-six. Let me use this opportunity to assure this house that it will be paid on time and in full,"* Dr. Forson said.

He also reported on external payments, saying Ghana has paid *$2.1 billion* to Eurobond holders since January 2025 without straining foreign exchange reserves.

*"Mr speaker since January twenty-five government has paid a total of two point one billion dollars in principal and interest to euro bond holders without placing undue pressure on Ghana's foreign exchange reserves,"* he said.

Dr. Forson said the consistent payments are rebuilding Ghana’s credibility with investors.

*"Right honourable speaker there was a time when the world doubted us. Today every payment made on time answers that doubt. Assuring bond holders in London, pension funds in New York and investors at home that our word is our bond. Payment after payment coupon after coupon. Ghana is proving one thing beyond dispute. We now keep our word. We now keep our..."* he stated.
