Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang says government has secured a partnership with Huawei to train 3,000 girls in Artificial Intelligence this year.
She said the initiative will create a pathway for the beneficiaries into the government's One Million Coders Program.
The Vice President was speaking at the Cohort 5 Graduation and HACSA @10 Summit, where she outlined government's efforts to close the gender digital divide.
According to her, girls must have an equal place in the digital world and opportunity must begin early and continue through education into employment.
"That is why work is underway with the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service to extend foundational digital skills training to young students," she said.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said through the long-standing Girls-in-ICT program, young women are being introduced to coding, animation and computing.
She added that government is also extending the efforts into higher education through partnerships with some tertiary institutions on the One Million Coders program.
"Taken together, these initiatives are helping build a stronger pipeline from early exposure to advanced training, with employment as the ultimate aim," she stated.
She noted that the work being done under the HACSA Tech4Girls initiative forms part of the wider national effort to expand opportunities for girls and young women and ensure they are not left behind in the digital transformation.
