The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has announced a new producer price for the 2026/2027 cocoa season.
Chief Executive of COCOBOD, Dr. Randy Abbey, said the price has been increased from GH¢41,392 to GH¢42,400 per tonne - representing GH¢2,650 per 64kg bag.
The new price is GH¢1,008 more per tonne than the previous season, an increase of about 2.4 percent.
Dr. Abbey also disclosed that the realised Free-On-Board (FOB) price for the season is US$2,650 per tonne.
According to COCOBOD, the new producer price represents 71.18% of the FOB value, which shows government's commitment to ensuring farmers get a fair share of returns from their produce.
The adjustment follows the passage of the Ghana Cocoa Board Act, 2026, which introduces an automatic price adjustment mechanism linked to international cocoa prices and exchange rates, while guaranteeing farmers at least 70% of the gross FOB price.
The new season is also coming with reforms in cocoa financing. COCOBOD is shifting from reliance on international syndicated loans to domestic funding through the proposed Cocoa Notes Programme, aimed at mobilising funds from Ghana's capital market to support cocoa purchases.
The 2026/2027 season therefore opens with major reforms in pricing, financing and management of the cocoa sector.
