The Majority Leader in Parliament, Hon. James Agalga, says the government of President John Dramani Mahama has taken decisive steps to revitalize the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) to strengthen Ghana's fight against narcotic drugs.
Addressing a press conference at Parliament House on Thursday, September 24, 2026, Hon. Agalga, who is the MP for Builsa North, said Parliament found it necessary to inform the public in a clear and factual manner about the true state of the country's anti-narcotics fight.
According to him, the briefing was to highlight the lapses within NACOC that were allowed to fester for years, and the interventions undertaken by the current administration to reposition the Commission to effectively defend the country.
"The people of Ghana must be aware of not only the current state of NACOC but also where it was compelled to stand before this administration took office," Hon. Agalga stated.
He said the public must be informed about the extent of institutional neglect that preceded 2025 to fully appreciate the transformation currently taking place and to hold the government to the standard it has set for itself.
