The Chairman of the Human Rights Committee of Parliament, Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim, has stressed the need for a strong child protection system as a reflection of a society that values human dignity and human rights.
The Kumawu MP made the call when he delivered an opening address at a five-day Field Monitoring and Capacity-building Workshop in Koforidua on Monday, focused on human rights and migration.
The workshop, organised in collaboration with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Parliament of Ghana, UNICEF, CHRAJ, ACEPA and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), is aimed at deliberating on critical issues relating to human rights and migration, including the use of rights-based language and the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM).
In his address, Hon. Anim urged participants to take advantage of the programme to develop practical solutions and strengthen collective responses to challenges facing children in Ghana.
He noted that as Parliament continues to strengthen its oversight role, such engagements provide valuable opportunities to deepen understanding of migration and human rights issues and translate discussions into practical actions for the benefit of all.
