The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAG) has commended the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) and the Bank of Ghana (BoG) for helping to improve foreign exchange and economic stability.
According to the Association, the relative stability in the forex market has brought greater predictability for importers and exporters, enabling businesses to plan their international transactions with more confidence.
Addressing a press conference, Executive Director of IEAG, Samson Asaki Awingobit, said GoldBod’s trading policies have helped strengthen Ghana’s forex position and improved access to forex for legitimate businesses.
He also lauded the Bank of Ghana for measures to maintain macroeconomic and financial stability, describing the reduction in interest rates as encouraging for businesses that rely on credit to finance operations.
The IEAG referenced the BoG’s Financial Stability Review, which shows average lending rate dropped from 30.3 percent in December 2024 to 20.5 percent in December 2025.
Mr. Awingobit said a further reduction in the cost of credit will bring relief to importers and exporters who need working capital to buy goods and meet international trade obligations.
He urged GoldBod and BoG to sustain and deepen measures that support forex stability and lower borrowing cost, noting that such interventions are crucial ahead of the Christmas season when demand for forex, credit and imported goods is expected to surge.
