Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohunu, has summoned the Volta Regional Police Commander, DCOP Wisdom Akorli, over allegations of harassment and extortion by some police officers along the Aflao-Accra highway.
The summons follows public complaints about the conduct of personnel stationed at several checkpoints, including the Tokor Barrier, Ativuta Toll Booth and the Weta-Afiadenyigba Junction, as well as other points towards Sogakope.
The issue gained attention after a viral Facebook post alleged that officers on the route demand receipts for goods being transported by local traders and extort money from those who fail to produce them.
The Joint Association of Port Transport Unions (JAPTU) has also petitioned senior police officers to intervene, saying its members are concerned not about the number of checkpoints, but about the alleged delays, intimidation and extortion traders face.
According to police sources, DCOP Akorli, after meeting the IGP, has scheduled a meeting with all Divisional and District Police Commanders on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, to discuss the allegations and agree on steps to address them.
In the interim, officers deployed to the affected checkpoints have been cautioned against misconduct, while the police administration is putting together an inspection team to identify and investigate personnel implicated in the alleged acts.
