Interior Minister *Mubarak Mohammed-Muntaka* has instructed the Inspector-General of Police to launch a full investigation into how civilians were able to enter police custody and assault a suspect.
The Minister directed the IGP to identify any police officers who aided, allowed, or failed to prevent the breach and to take disciplinary action against anyone found liable.
He also ordered immediate steps to track down, arrest, and prosecute the civilians captured on video attacking the suspect, in line with the law.
In addition, all supervising officers responsible for the custody and oversight of those involved are to be queried.
The Minister stressed that all persons arrested in connection with the incident must be handled strictly according to due process, “without fear or favour.”
The directive follows public concern over footage showing civilians assaulting a person who was already in police custody.
