Former Power Minister *Dr. Kwabena Donkor* has denied any link to bribery allegations tied to the U.S. conviction of former TOR Managing Director and Goldman Sachs banker, *Asante Kwaku Berko*.
In a statement from his lawyers, Dr. Donkor said he has “absolutely no knowledge” of the claims circulating on social media and “completely and emphatically” denies ever asking for or receiving money from Mr. Berko or anyone else.
“*Our client instructs us in very crystal clear language that he has absolutely no knowledge about the allegations linked to him. He completely and emphatically denies any knowledge of a request or demand for any money as alleged*,” the statement read.
The lawyers confirmed that Dr. Donkor was Power Minister during the period when government, through his Ministry, was negotiating with *ASKA Energy* to bring in emergency power to deal with the “Dumsor” crisis. They noted that a technical team from power sector institutions traveled to Istanbul, Turkey for a standard pre-shipment inspection of equipment during those talks.
However, Dr. Donkor said he never met Mr. Berko at any point.
“*According to our client, at no point in the course of this negotiation did he once set eyes on the said Mr Asante Berko nor has he since*,” the lawyers stated.
“*He never discussed any personal benefit of any value whatsoever with Mr Asante Berko or any other person... He never received any money in any denomination or any personal benefit of any value from Mr Asante Berko or any other person*.”
The statement also rejected suggestions that references to a “Senior Ghana Official” in the U.S. case should be linked to him.
“*He does not accept that evidence that some other person or persons claimed that they required money from their principals for the benefit of ‘Senior Ghana Official’... metamorphosed into any evidence of criminality or wrongdoing against him*,” it added.
The lawyers warned that any publication implying Dr. Donkor’s involvement “*SHALL result in immediate legal proceedings*.”
The denial follows the *August 6, 2026* conviction of Asante Berko by a U.S. federal jury in Brooklyn over an alleged bribery scheme involving Ghanaian officials to secure a power plant deal during President John Dramani Mahama’s first term.
Dr. Donkor’s lawyers said, to their knowledge, no evidence was presented in the U.S. trial linking him to demanding or receiving money or any benefit.
