The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana, JUSAG, has notified the National Labour Commission of its intention to embark on an indefinite strike from Monday, 2nd November, 2026.
In a letter dated 23rd October, 2026 and signed by its General Secretary, Abdulai Yakubu, JUSAG said the industrial action has become necessary due to the failure of Government to address concerns regarding the review of salaries and related allowances for staff of the Judicial Service.
According to the Association, conditions of service of Judicial Service staff are governed by Article 149 of the 1992 Constitution and the Judicial Service (Terms and Conditions of Service) Regulations, 2025 (C.I. 141), which requires that salaries are reviewed annually on the advice of the Judicial Council.
JUSAG said after the expiry of the last salary review in December, 2025, it wrote to the Judicial Council requesting a review for 2026. The Council concluded its work and submitted its advice to the President for determination.
However, the Association says there has been undue delay in concluding the process. It wrote to the Judicial Council on 19th January, 2026 to expedite action and again reminded Management on 10th September, 2026, in addition to several public appeals at its 2nd Quadrennial Delegates' Conference in Tamale in August, the 45th AMJG Conference in Accra in September and the Chief Justice's Staff Durbar in Tamale in September.
JUSAG lamented that all appeals have been met with only assurances, with no concrete steps by Government to approve the recommendations and pay the reviewed salaries, while colleagues elsewhere in the public sector had their 2026 salaries approved and paid in January 2026.
"Our members are still waiting — patiently, but no longer quietly. This situation has heightened tension and dampened morale among staff of the Judicial Service," the letter stated.
The Association says its National Executive Council has resolved to make final demands:
(a) Approval of the recommendations of the Judicial Council on the 2026 salary review by the end of October, 2026; and
(b) Payment of the reviewed salaries in November, 2026, together with arrears from January to October, 2026.
It warned that if the demands are not met by Sunday, 1st November, 2026, JUSAG shall declare an indefinite strike commencing on Monday, 2nd November, 2026, and the strike shall remain in force until the demands are met.
The letter was copied to the Executive Secretary at the Office of the President, the Judicial Secretary, the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, the Minister of Finance and the Minister for Jobs, Labour and Employment Relations.
