Sports Minister Kofi Adams says Ghanaian fans worried about delays will receive their 2026 World Cup tickets before matchday, despite FIFA’s tight restrictions on distribution.
Speaking to the media June 13, Adams confirmed government has bought 1,000 tickets for each of Ghana’s games in Canada, the United States, and Mexico. He admitted not every supporter will get one, but assured eligible fans: “The tickets will go to them at the appropriate time… they will attend the games.”
For Ghana’s opener against Panama in Toronto on June 17, Adams said tickets should reach the main holder by Sunday evening, June 13, for onward distribution.
He blamed the delay on FIFA’s anti-resale measures. World Cup tickets aren’t printed or shareable via screenshots. Each recipient must download the FIFA ticketing app and provide an email address for the transfer from the original buyer. “Ticket resale is frowned upon, and so in designing the ticket, they were categorised and handled in a way that makes it extremely difficult sometimes to transfer,” Adams explained.
The Minister also thanked government for releasing funds early to cover Ghana’s first-phase costs at the tournament. “Every financial aspect that we need to cover… has been done, and now we are really good to go financially,” he said.
Addressing off-field issues including visa denials, Adams said the Black Stars remain focused. “The spirit in camp is high, no matter what anybody does… we are determined to raise Ghana’s flag very high and honourably.”
