President John Dramani Mahama has assured that the Accra Reset initiative will not end as just another lofty idea debated at the United Nations, but will be translated into concrete global action.
Speaking at a high-level event dubbed "Accra Reset: Full Circle – Making Global Development Work Again" on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly in New York, President Mahama said Ghana is shifting the initiative from design to implementation.
He announced the unveiling of a new report titled ‘A Sovereign Future for Health’, which outlines 10 practical recommendations to reshape global development cooperation.
"This report we unveiled today sets out 10 practical recommendations which will be presented after my remarks by the high-level panel. We are now moving from design to execution," President Mahama stated.
The President cautioned against allowing bold ideas to fade after international gatherings, insisting the Accra Reset will be different.
"Too often, visionary ideas are born with great fanfare, only to die quietly in New York's diplomatic corridors. We will not let that happen to the Accra Reset," he stressed.
According to him, Ghana, together with its Presidential Council, will in the coming months convene governments, global health institutions, development finance institutions, philanthropies and private sector actors to convert the recommendations into country-level compacts.
"We invite strategic partners from all over the world, from Brazil to leading institutions in India, Indonesia, the Gulf, across Africa, to partner with us. We want to build sustaining networks that connect research, regulatory oversight, local manufacturing and reliable distribution," he added.
The Accra Reset is Ghana's initiative aimed at reimagining global health and development, with a strong push for sovereign, Africa-led solutions.
