Seven suspects, including two soldiers and three police officers, have been arrested for their alleged role in a robbery syndicate that targeted investors in Accra, Tema, Anyinam, Kumasi, and Takoradi.
The Ghana Police Service said the arrests were made by the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the IGP following a probe into a series of attacks where victims were robbed of cash, gold, and mercury.
Investigations began after Mousa Bamba, an Ivorian investor, reported that he was lured to Dzorwulu to buy six kilograms of gold worth US$450,000. The suspects, posing as CID operatives and military personnel, allegedly robbed him at gunpoint and escaped.
Police, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, May 26, confirmed the arrest of Mohammed Umaro, also known as Alhaji, and Gabriel Sewornu, alias Dangote.
Further inquiries linked two military personnel to the case: Lance Corporal Eugene Akurugu and Lance Corporal Emmanuel Arko, alias Bullet. Three police officers were also implicated: Inspector Richmond Osei, Corporal Gideon Anor, and Lance Corporal Felix Deku Tetteyga. The three officers have been interdicted to allow for investigations.
Between May 23 and May 24, 2026, intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of Justin Oduro, alias Don King or Mafia, Clement Gyasi, and Farouk Zakari.
All seven suspects are in police custody assisting with investigations. Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest other accomplices linked to the syndicate.
