The Majority Leader in Parliament, Hon. James Agalga, has revealed that the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) had less than 1,500 personnel nationwide before the current administration took office, despite being mandated to secure the entire country.
Addressing a press conference at Parliament House on Thursday, September 24, 2026, Hon. Agalga said the public must come to a hard realization about the state in which the anti-narcotics agency was left.
"Before this administration, the entire Narcotics Control Commission which is responsible for securing a nation of over thirty million people, a long coastline, two major seaports, an international airport and borders that extend our frontiers, had less than one thousand five hundred personnel throughout the country," he stated.
According to him, that figure does not constitute a national narcotics agency.
"It is not a national narcotics agency. It's a skeletal crew called on to do a national mission," he said.
The Majority Leader, who is the MP for Builsa North, said with such numbers, no meaningful narcotics presence was found in any districts of the country, leaving whole communities vulnerable and unprotected.
He described the situation as an agency without the tools to fight.
