The Christian Council of Ghana has set up a technical committee to explore the way forward for the stalled National Cathedral project.
The committee, made up of representatives from various Christian groupings, has been given a one-month deadline to develop a practical funding model and make recommendations on the location and other key issues concerning the project.
Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev. Enoch Nii Narh Thompson, disclosed this after a closed-door meeting with the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
He said the committee's recommendations will be presented to President John Mahama to guide the next steps on the project.
"Under this council, within a month, we will discuss issues relating to the practical intervention of funding, location and other things pertinent to the National Cathedral. So, we will within the month present the recommendations and expect the necessary decisions to be taken," Rev. Thompson said.
The Council also called for the expedited completion of the forensic audit into the National Cathedral project, noting that the findings would enable Christian leaders to assess the situation and determine the appropriate next steps.
The National Cathedral project was announced in 2017 by then-President Nana Akufo-Addo as a national Christian worship and heritage centre. It was officially commissioned in 2018 with a groundbreaking ceremony held in 2019.
The project has since faced funding and construction challenges, leaving it incomplete and triggering calls for clarity on its financing and future.
