New Minerals Commission Office Not Just Infrastructure But Investment in Mining Sector – Deputy Lands Minister

The government has commissioned a new ultra-modern office complex for the Minerals Commission in Kumasi to strengthen mining regulation and improve service delivery in the middle belt.

The facility was commissioned on behalf of the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, by his Deputy, Dr. Alhaji Yusif Sulemana.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Sulemana said the new office is more than just infrastructure, but an investment in the institutional capacity needed to effectively regulate, manage and develop Ghana's mineral wealth.

He said the Minerals Commission plays a central role in the sector, including the administration of mineral rights, regulation of mining operations, data collection, policy advice and enforcement of mining regulations.

According to him, a modern and well-equipped working environment will boost operational efficiency and enable the Commission to provide better services to mining companies, investors, mining communities and other stakeholders.

Dr. Sulemana stressed that government sees such infrastructure not just as support for mining, but as a key driver of national economic and social development.

He noted that Ghana is endowed with gold, bauxite, manganese, diamond and other industrial and technology minerals, and it is government's duty to ensure that their exploitation translates into tangible benefits for Ghanaians.

"We must move beyond an economy where minerals are simply extracted and exported, towards one where mining stimulates infrastructure development, industrialisation, local enterprise, job creation and value addition," he stated.

The Deputy Minister added that a modern mining industry requires strong regulatory institutions, reliable data systems, modern laboratories, effective inspection capacity and digital platforms that enhance transparency and reduce bureaucratic delays.

He urged staff of the Commission to uphold professionalism, efficiency and innovation to support a competitive and sustainable mining sector.
