The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has dismissed claims that there is a rift between the Bank of Ghana and GoldBod or that there is rot at GoldBod following comments by the BoG Governor that he resigned from the GoldBod Board five months ago.
In a statement signed by Media Relations Officer, Prince Kwame Minkah, GoldBod said the suggestion is completely false and reflects a lack of understanding of the GoldBod Act and the facts.
According to the statement, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiamah, due to his busy schedule, simply nominated his Second Deputy, Mrs. Matilda Asante-Asiedu to represent him on the Board in accordance with Section 4(e) of the GoldBod Act, 2025 (Act 1140).
The statement explained that Section 4 of the Act provides that the governing body consists of the Minister for Mines or his representative not below the rank of Director, the Minister for Finance or his representative, and the Governor of BoG or his representative not below the rank of Director.
It noted that upon the establishment of GoldBod in 2025, the Minister of Finance from the outset nominated his Deputy, Hon. Thomas Nyarko Ampem to represent him on the Board.
Similarly, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, initially sat on the Board himself but in January 2026 nominated his Chief Director, Mr. Marcus Haligah to represent him due to his busy schedule.
Likewise, Dr. Asiamah initially sat on the Board himself but on May 11, 2026 wrote to the Board nominating his Second Deputy to represent him.
"So you see, the fact that Dr. Asiamah no longer sits on the Board of the GoldBod, does not mean that there is any ongoing rot at the GoldBod. Neither is there any fight between the BoG and the GoldBod," the statement said.
GoldBod stressed that it is currently the main anchor of foreign exchange generation for Ghana and works very closely with the Bank of Ghana on a day-to-day basis.
