No Money Returned, Letter Attributed To Patricia Appiagyei Is Fake – Deputy Minority Whip

The Minority in Parliament has dismissed reports that Deputy Minority Leader and Asokwa MP, Patricia Appiagyei, returned GH¢70,000 allegedly paid to her in connection with vetting of ministers and Supreme Court nominees.

Second Deputy Minority Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, told the media that the letter circulating on social media in Mrs Appiagyei's name is fake.

According to him, Mrs Appiagyei herself has confirmed she has no knowledge of where the letter came from or who authored it.

The document in circulation claimed she had returned GH¢70,000 advanced from the Majority Chief Whip because she did not know its source and did not want to benefit financially from vetting colleagues including Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, Environment Minister Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, and three Supreme Court nominees.

Mr Ahmed said checks with the Majority side also indicate that no such payment or letter originated from them.

The purported letter had sparked public debate over alleged financial allocations to members of the Appointments Committee.

The Minority says the document should be treated as inauthentic and cautioned the public against relying on it, as questions remain about its source and authorship.

The development comes amid heightened scrutiny of Parliament's Appointments Committee over its vetting processes.
