Nollywood Mourns Yoruba Actress Temitope Osoba, Dead at 40

The Nigerian movie industry is in mourning following the death of Yoruba actress Temitope Osoba, popularly called Tope Osoba.

The news broke on Tuesday after fellow actor Alesh Sanni shared an emotional tribute online. He said he couldn’t sleep and described her as a close friend and colleague.

“Rest in peace, my dearest sister Temitope Osoba. We made beautiful memories together. Till we meet again. I really don’t know what to say,” Sanni wrote.

As of now, the family and Osoba’s management have not released an official statement, and the cause of her death has not been made public.

The announcement has triggered tributes from fans and colleagues who remembered her for her work in Yoruba cinema. Osoba was known for taking on a wide range of roles in family dramas, comedies, and traditional films. Some of her popular movies include _Ile Owo_, _Omo Iya Kan_, and _Gucci Girls_.

Her passing comes just about a year after she made a heartfelt comeback to acting following her recovery from breast cancer. In 2025, Osoba revealed she had found a lump during a self-exam and went through surgery and radiation. She later announced she was cancer-free and thanked fans and colleagues who supported her financially and emotionally during treatment.

At the time, she said the experience changed her view of life and made her determined to use her platform to create breast cancer awareness and inspire others. She described herself as stronger and more focused on her craft.

Osoba was 40.
