NPP Announces 6-Day Nationwide Demonstration Over Wontumi’s Conviction And 20-Year Sentence

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to embark on a six-day nationwide peaceful demonstration to protest the conviction and 20-year prison sentence handed to its Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

In a statement signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong and released from the party’s headquarters, the NPP said the demonstration will run from *Saturday, 25th July 2026 to Thursday, 30th July 2026*.

According to the party, the action is to “express our strong dissatisfaction with the judgment and to demand justice, fairness, and respect for due process.”

The NPP is calling on all members, supporters, sympathizers, and well-wishers to “come out in their numbers and join this peaceful demonstration.”

The statement added that further details on venues, routes, and daily activities will be communicated in due course, and urged party faithful to “remain peaceful, law-abiding, and united in this cause.”

Wontumi was recently sentenced to 20 years in prison on two counts related to unlawful assignment of mineral rights and facilitating illegal mining at Samreboi in connection with Akonta Mining Limited.
